Inequality Tasc 2022

28 June 2022

Inequality in Ireland 2022 was launched by Tasc the economic think tank in May of this year. The report provides a useful account of how Ireland is doing in terms of maintaining/improving income inequality.

Ireland is doing quite well on the Gini coefficient, a widely used indicator, but this indicator masks underlying problems such as the large social transfers (welfare) required to lift people out of poverty - 40% against an OECD average of 20%. So the state is supplementing the income of many on low to modest incomes.
